Why this 4 port PoE switch for CCTV fits your IP camera layout
If you’re setting up a handful of surveillance cameras in a hotel, retail store, or small office, you don’t need a complex managed switch. This 4 port PoE switch for CCTV gives you exactly what a camera network asks for: stable power delivery, long-distance reach, and simple isolation to keep video streams clean.
Four 10/100Base-TX ports (ports 1-4) each supply IEEE 802.3af/at PoE – up to 30W on ports 2-3, and a full 60W on port 1 for high-power PTZ cameras or outdoor IR illuminators. The total PoE budget hits 120W, so you can run four standard cameras or mix in one demanding device without worrying about overload. The switch auto-detects PoE devices, so plugging in a non-PoE laptop or printer won’t fry the port – a real relief for field installs.
Need to run a camera beyond the usual 100 meters? Flip the DIP switch to 250m mode, and ports 1-4 drop to 10M speed while pushing signal and power over existing CAT5e/6 cable up to 250 meters. At the same time, the switch isolates those four ports from each other – they can only talk to the uplink ports (the Gigabit RJ45 and the two SFP slots). This stops broadcast storms and reduces collisions, which matters when you’re forwarding multiple camera feeds upstream. In normal 100m mode, all ports can communicate freely, so you can also use it as a simple desktop switch for mixed traffic.
The two 1000Base-X SFP slots let you connect fiber uplinks for longer runs or interference-free backbone links – perfect if your NVR is in a different building. The metal housing and built-in power supply keep it cool even under full PoE load, and you can mount it on a wall or sit it on a desk. No configuration needed – just plug in cameras, set the DIP switch if required, and the network is up.
