Built for IP Camera Deployments – No Configuration Needed
Setting up a surveillance network shouldn’t require a networking degree. The SG422P is a dedicated poe switch for ip camera installations, giving you 6 Gigabit ports with PoE+ on ports 1–4, plus 2 SFP uplinks to extend your camera network farther. It automatically detects PoE devices and only powers them, so you won’t accidentally fry a non-PoE camera or sensor.
Why the VLAN Mode Matters for Video
When you flip the DIP switch to VLAN mode, ports 1–4 become isolated from each other but can still talk to the uplink ports (5–8). This stops broadcast storms from choking your video feed – a common headache in multi-camera setups. Each camera gets its own collision domain, which means no packet collisions, smoother live views, and less retransmission. In normal mode, all ports communicate freely, useful for mixed device networks.
Real-World Performance & Reliability
With 16Gbps backplane bandwidth and wire-speed forwarding, this switch handles multiple 4K IP streams without dropping frames. The metal housing and built-in power supply (AC 100–240V) keep it cool even in cramped equipment rooms. For outdoor camera poles or wall mounts, the compact 201×140×44mm size fits neatly; optional surge protection (6KV common mode, 4KV differential mode) adds peace of mind for exposed installations. No software, no login – just plug in cameras, connect SFP fiber for long runs, and you’re online.
Who Uses This Switch?
- IT administrators deploying 4–8 IP cameras in small offices, retail stores, or warehouses
- Security installers needing a reliable, low-cost PoE switch with uplink flexibility
- Facility managers upgrading analog CCTV to IP without re-cabling the entire building
