Can this 4 port PoE media converter power a non-PoE device without damage?

Yes. The device automatically detects whether the connected device supports PoE and only supplies power if it does. Non-PoE devices like regular computers or printers will simply receive data without power, so no risk of damage.

What type of fiber cable should I use with the SC port?

It depends on the distance. For short distances (up to 2km) use multi-mode fiber with 850nm or 1310nm optics. For longer runs (up to 100km) use single-mode fiber with 1310nm or 1550nm optics. The media converter supports both, but you need the matching SFP module or built-in SC connector (single-mode SC is standard on this model).

How do I set up this media converter? Do I need any software?

No configuration required. Just connect power (DC 48-53V adapter), plug your PoE devices into the RJ45 ports, and connect the fiber cable to your main switch. It starts forwarding frames immediately – true plug-and-play.

What’s the maximum PoE power per port – can it run a PTZ camera?

Each port delivers up to 25.4W under 802.3at (PoE+). Most PTZ cameras draw 12-20W, so yes, it can power them. But check your camera’s peak power; if it exceeds 25.4W you’ll need a higher-power injector or a different switch.

Can I use this 4 port PoE media converter with a 10/100Mbps camera?

Absolutely. The RJ45 ports auto-negotiate down to 10 or 100Mbps, so older cameras work fine. The fiber uplink still runs at 1.25Gbps, which won’t be a bottleneck for a few cameras.

Does the metal housing get hot? Is the fanless design reliable?

The metal housing acts as a heatsink and keeps internal temperatures within spec even under full PoE load. No fan means no moving parts to fail, and it’s silent – great for offices or hotel lobbies. Just ensure good airflow around the device.

What type of power supply do I need – can I use a standard 48V PoE switch power?

The input voltage is DC 48-53V. You need an external power adapter that matches that range (typically included with the unit). Do not use a standard 12V or 24V adapter – it won’t work and may damage the device. If you lost the adapter, order a 48-53V DC 1A or higher supply with a 2.1mm barrel plug.

Is this media converter compatible with SFP instead of the fixed SC connector?

The standard CG104P model comes with a fixed SC fiber port. If you need SFP flexibility, check with your supplier for the SFP version (often labeled CG104P-SFP). This fixed SC version works well for permanent fiber runs.

Can I rack-mount multiple units together?

Yes, the unit has mounting ears for a standard 19-inch rack shelf (optional kit). You can install several CG104P units side by side. The metal case and fanless design keep heat manageable in a rack if you leave ventilation gaps.

What kind of warranty and support do you offer for this 4 port PoE media converter?

Warranty terms vary by distributor, but typically these units come with a 1-year limited warranty. We recommend buying from authorized resellers to ensure genuine product and support. For technical issues, contact your vendor with model CG104P.
